My daughter Charlotte and I took part in the Race for Life at the Château Bois Guy in Parigne. We had attended the event last year at the same venue on a very hot July day, so this year with a cooler, cloudy day the conditions were much easier.
It is always intended to be a fun run/walk of 5km for adults and children of all ages to take part and raise funds for specific charities. This year, half the proceeds from the day and the sponsor money will be donated to Cancer Research UK . Karen from Moi-Bien did a great Zumba warm up before the start, and we went on our way.
As it was Jubilee weekend, the theme included anything to do with the Jubilee célébrations, so we took a large string of bunting which the girls waved around the car at the passing traffic all the way to the venue… probably to the alarm of the french motorists on the A84!!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago, and the friends I went with (Lyn and Sue) are also cancer survivors. We were supported as usual by our daughters, Charlotte, Lucy-Ann and Lauren, along with their friend Laura, who all had great fun writing messages of support and remembrance all over their race t-shirts!! They disappeared in to the distance, from the off, while we took a more sedate pace, and at the end everyone was presented with a medal and a certificate of achievement!

We all feel fit and well now and enjoy taking part to raise money for Cancer Research UK and french Cancer charities. We have been very fortunate to have received great care and attention from both sides of the Channel, so it is nice to be able to give a little something back in this way. Some are not so lucky, my good friend Angela died in 2010, only 10 days after a painful, but epically brave visit to stay with us here in France. She wanted to see our new home, relax with a glass of wine in the sun, and walk on the beach…. She did all of these in her visit, and we have happy memories of her last days and smiles. We dedicate our efforts to her.
The Organizers of the event work hard and do a great job…please look out for 2013 information on the event in the Spring of next year, and come along in your hundreds to support such a worthy cause. We are proud to take part. Thank you.
It is hosted by Aidons, and the lady who organizes it is Hayley Gilks (hayleygilks@gmail.com). Web site is - www.aidonslcc.fr - which includes event/sponsor information.
