Lisieux
Completed in 1954 the huge Bailique de Ste-Therese was the last major religious building in France to be solely erected by public subscription. A Norman gothic cathedral built in 1170 is a relic of the towns medieval past, which was destroyed by bombing the 1944. Within its precincts is a chapel erected by Pierre Cauchon , the judge who sentenced Joan of Arc to death. Return to Calvados page
